Since ancient times Life Path Number 4 was associated with Mother Earth, passive matter, which in antithesis to heaven represents all that is solid, tangible, and concrete. In Greek mythology, Gaea or Gaia is the complementary aspect of Chaos, the void, the primordial abyss. Gea is the progenitor mother, who with her compact forms represents the organization of reality, a solid foundation on which to build the world. In mythology, the generous Goddess of fertility and agriculture, a nourishing mother who gives life, but equally can show her cruel side when she produces earthquakes to remind her children that they must always honor her. It brings us back to a type of spirituality of the immanent earth, pantheistic where everything is sacred and divine, the earth is sacred and so are living beings, as opposed to the transcendental spirituality that dominates in patriarchal cultures. Thus we witness the ambivalent character of the Female Archetype, which expresses itself in negative terms such as the terrible Devouring Mother, which destroys and devours, and in positive terms as a transforming principle, which pushes, entices, and encourages the male to face all the adventures of the psyche and of the spirit, and to act and create above all in the external and concrete world. In fact, the builder who represents this archetype symbolizes the physical world, the body, and the material needs to ensure survival. Number 4 is responsible and patient, serious, and methodical, and has a profound sense of justice in his activities. The Builder aspires to an orderly and safe world where rules and morals are the basis of social structure. Supported by a strong sense of reality, he works on concrete projects that have serious development opportunities. He manages to perceive the world through the senses, tied as it is earth and nature, enjoying through the physical and perceptual sphere. He prefers teamwork where everyone has his own well-defined and concrete task and his strong practical sense directs him to works in which his manual ability is enhanced and to create projects in practice, evaluating opportunities and organizing work patiently and with perseverance.
Negative characteristics of the number 1 (Aspects in the Shadow)
The Builder in his shadow side becomes the Prisoner. The individual can oscillate between a stubborn rebellion against the rules of the world and a rigid adhesion of patterns and laws of behavior, which remind us of the super-ego model identified by psychoanalysis, where an excessive mental superstructure born to protect the ego becomes the undisputed voice that imprisons the individual within an integral or a fanatic rebel movement. His need for security is not always recognized leads him to close and hide behind a thick armor. An emotional coldness and detachment distinguish his relationship with other people. Work becomes a means for the Prisoner to hide the fear of the unknown and uncertainty. An excessive attachment to work leads him to exhaust his energies as he can complain of non-existent economic difficulties leading him to extreme savings or fear of the future. Another difficulty is linked to change, the security of his routine blocks him and limits his freedom of expression in welcoming the news.
